THEMeaux Tourist Office proposed a back to school tour the 28 last August.

A visit to the Meldoise city

At the invitation ofElena Le Gall, appointed director in June, the groups and communication services of the Grand Roissy Tourist Office were able to discover the heritage and tourist riches of the Meldoise city.

The morning started at 9:30 am with a visit to the Museum of the Great War. Inaugurated in 2011, it houses the immense collection of objects collected by historian Jean-Pierre Verney. Thanks to uniforms, paper documents, board games, toiletries, vehicles and even weapons, the Museum takes visitors to a real time travel. The visit allows you to understand the life of soldiers and civilians between 1914 and 1918. But the objective is also to make everyone understand how this war shaped the society we know today.

The day continued with a visit to the historic center of Meaux. Close to Bossuet garden (the city's most famous bishop) stretches the Saint-Etienne cathedral in Meaux. Built in 365 years, the superb building is considered the little sister of Notre-Dame-de-Paris.

The visit ended with a discovery of the Bossuet Museum, housed in theformer episcopal palace. The museum houses a permanent collection, in particular thanks to donations made by Jean-Pierre Changeux, neurosurgeon, author of Neuronal Man and art lover. But the museum also offers temporary exhibitions, like, from September 18, that on the centenary of the fire of the mills of Meaux.

This visit, rich in discoveries, naturally ended with a tasting of the traditional Brie de Meaux!

A morning of work

This morning was above all the opportunity for the gathered tourism professionals to work on their common points and their assets, in order to continue to develop the territory. Among these strengths:

  • preserved natural areas: Ourcq Canal, Jablines leisure center, Écouen forest, etc.
  • a rich heritage: historic towns, Écouen castle ...
  • an interesting geographical proximity and an accessible territory!

The Grand Roissy Tourist Office would like to thank the Meaux Tourist Office team for their welcome and this enriching morning!
