After a year 2020 ended on a decrease where the RevPAR lost 80% in December 2020, the Revenue per available room loses -74,1% in January 2021 compared to January 2020, a pre-Covid period on the French market.

Average prices contract by 25% with a greater drop in the entry-level offer which offers an average price of € 48,40 excluding VAT. It is no surprise in the airport area, which cannot benefit from full-time transit customers, whether French or foreign, that the contraction is greatest with average fares of -26,7% compared to until January 2020.

Occupancy remains at 25,8% on the market. The entry level reaching 44%, followed by the top of the range 20,6% then the mid-range which does not reach 20% with an occupancy which peaks at 19,3%, a loss of 52,7 points for this segment.

The impact of the health crisis which paralyzes international travel and prevents the holding of major events carrying air and rail traffic is palpable in all Ile-de-France destinations. The prospects for recovery are still uncertain, which does not encourage the projection of displacement.

Compared to the Disneyland Paris hub (very dependent on foreign customers and whose park has been closed since the second reconfinement), La Défense or Porte de Versailles (very dependent on the holding of events and corporate customers), the Roissy hub has a better occupancy rate with 25,8% infill in January 2021.

However, the Orly hub (where aircraft rotations are gradually resuming but with a lower volume than Roissy) is performing better with an occupancy of 38,4% against 25,8% at Roissy. It was also the Orly market which maintained its average prices the most in January, allowing a less severe drop in RevPAR than on the other markets.

January 2020 also marked the start of a dynamic and profitable year for the sector, with performance improving compared to 2019. This further accentuates the underperformance of early 2021.

The 2021 figures are also put in parallel with the year 2019 in order to provide everyone with a maximum of keys to understanding the performance results.
