Every year, on the first Sunday of March, the French celebrate Grandmother's Day. To prepare properly for this Sunday, March 6, 2022, the Grand Roissy Tourist Office gives you some ideas for activities, gifts and family outings.
The origins of Grandmother's Day
Established by the brand Grand'Mother Cafe for commercial purposes in 1987, this festival has become very popular in France. Subsequently, the brand continued to promote this event, which still remains a unofficial party. Indeed, Mother's Day is set by the Ministry of Families and therefore has a more official character.
Grandmother's Day is not not a strictly French tradition. However, in France, we celebrate grandmothers on one side and grandfathers on the other. While other countries rather celebrate the “National Grandparents Day”.

Activity ideas
While the generations have been more separated than ever in recent years, we need more than ever share moments with our grandmothers. Why not make a recipe with it? We guide you to prepare four-handed madeleines !
- mix 3 eggs and 150 g sugar until the mixture is smooth.
- add 100 g of melted butter, 200 g of flour, 50 g of milk and a tablespoon of yeast, then the zest of a lemon.
- You can possibly flavor this preparation with 2 tablespoons of orange blossom water or 1 tablespoon of liquid vanilla extract.
- Butter your madeleine mold and fill it with batter.
- ask your grandmother put it in the oven (preheated beforehand) for 10 minutes (at 190°C, thermostat 6).
- Unmold and let cool on a wire rack.
You can then taste these delicious traditional madeleines around a good hot chocolate with your grandmother! They taste like childhood.
