No car? No problem. In Grand Roissy, your Navigo pass is all you need to explore a surprisingly rich area, from Renaissance heritage and lush greenery to riverside walks and wellness facilities just steps from the tarmac. Medieval village, ancient forest, country canal, aquatic center, or the Vallée Verte: here are five great reasons to leave the airport for something other than just returning.

🏰 1. The Château d'Écouen, the only Renaissance museum in France

22 minutes from Gare du Nord, the Écouen Castle is one of the best-kept secrets of the Île-de-France region. Built in the years 1538-1550 for Anne de Montmorency, Constable of France, just 19 km north of Paris and 15 minutes from Roissy CDG airportIt has housed the National Renaissance Museum, the only museum in France entirely dedicated to the period.

The collections bring together treasures of European decorative arts: furniture, silverware, painted enamels, majolica, tapestries… Some thirty rooms have retained much of their original decor. The estate's park, listed historical monument, can be visited freely and offers a breathtaking view of the plain of France.

Useful information Take line H from Gare du Nord (platform 30 or 31), towards Persan-Beaumont / Luzarches via Monsoult. Get off at Écouen-Ézanville station, then take bus 269 towards Garges-Sarcelles, stop at Mairie/Château (5 min). It is also possible to reach the museum on foot from the station through the forest (20 min). Full price: €5 to €7. Free for those under 26 and on the first Sunday of the month.

🌿 2. The Green Valley of Roissy-en-France, the green lung of the region

Are you on a layover or business trip at Roissy and need some fresh air? La Green Valley is less than 10-minute walk from the bus stop. Six kilometers of free walking allow you to walk, run and cycle throughout the Vallée Verte, with its lakes, educational trails about fauna and flora, and areas for relaxation and picnicking.

At the heart of this site 90 hectares, the Roissy International Golf CourseOpened in 2020, it offers an 18-hole public course (PAR 72, 6,515 m), a driving range 26 positions filledIt features a 6-hole pitch & putt course and a clubhouse with a restaurant and bar. Accessible from age 6, it is one of the few golf destinations in the Île-de-France region that is so easily reachable without a car.

🛶 3. A stroll along the Ourcq Canal in Gressy

Who would have thought it: just a stone's throw from Paris-CDG airport flows one of the the most peaceful canals in Île-de-France. This is at Gressy than the Ourcq canal crosses the territory of Greater Roissy. From the Gressy Manor, one can follow the Beuvronne and the canal as far as Claye-Souilly for a family stroll by the water, in astonishing silence.

For cycling enthusiasts, the canal is lined with cycle paths that allow access Paris in 24,7 km without any intersection with traffic, on the Scandibérique cycle routeA surprising return to nature for those who expected nothing from this territory.

Useful information From CDG airport, take bus 2101 or 2161 towards Le Mesnil-Amelot and get off at Gressy (Mairie stop). The walk starts from Gressy Town Hall, 12 avenue du Château. Free access.

💧 4. La Plaine Oxygène in Mesnil-Amelot, wellness 5 minutes from CDG

Extended layover, delayed flight, or simply a desire to unwind after a long journey? The Plaine Oxygène aquatic complex is the most unexpected leisure facility in the area. Located in Mesnil-Amelot, in the immediate vicinity of Paris-CDG airport, this 11,000 m² complex comes in three areas: an aquatic area with a 25m sports pool, a play area and baby swimming; a wellness area with sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and whirlpool bath; a fitness area with cardio, weight training and group classes.

A place too little known to passing travelers, even though it is ideally located for a rejuvenating break between two flights.

🗺️ 5. A visit to the old village of Roissy-en-France, between plow and supersonic

It is the least expected activity in the territory, and one of the most endearing. Roissy-en-France is a typical village of Île-de-France which has gone from the plow to supersonic speeds in twenty years, with a surprising destiny for a small town in Val-d'Oise. Classified as a tourist resort By decree of April 26, 2016, the municipality allows, along the walk, the discovery of its historical and contemporary heritage in a wooded and green setting.

The highlight of the visit: Saint-Éloi church, a true jewel of the Renaissance. Inside, there are polychrome coats of arms from the 18th century, the seigneurial liter of Riquet de CaramanLords of Roissy from 1725 to 1789, a magnificently carved high altar and stained glass windows restored by the glass painters of Chartres in 1982. The Grand Roissy Tourist Office offers a tour starting from the Orangerie.

Useful information Take the RER B train to Roissy CDG 2 station, then bus 93 or 95 towards Roissy-en-France town centre. The tour starts in front of the Tourist Office, 6 allée du Verger. The church is open during the day.
