Sunday, July 5, 2026The Orville archaeological site in Louvres is reliving the 6th century for a free family day out. The program includes a Merovingian encampment, workshops on ancient crafts, and tours of the medieval castle, celebrating the 5th anniversary of this flagship event of the ARCHÉA museum.
An immersion into the very beginning of the Middle Ages
This year marks a symbolic anniversary: ARCHÉA celebrates the 5th anniversary of its reenactment day. For the occasion, the Orville archaeological site is transformed into a veritable encampment of the 6th century. Reenactment companies Lupi Austrasiae et Syagria People set up their tents and present to a family audience the equipment, clothing and weapons of the Merovingian era, that is to say the very first days of the occupation of the Orville site.
Continuous workshops and demonstrations
All day long, the Reenactors lead participatory workshops dedicated to Merovingian daily life: crafts, textiles, weaponry. A concrete and vivid way to understand how the inhabitants of Orville lived nearly 1,500 years ago.
Discovering the remains of the castle
Alongside the activities, visits to the archaeological site and the remains of the castleTours of this site, destroyed at the end of the Middle Ages, are offered continuously, depending on visitor numbers. This is an opportunity to rediscover the history of this iconic site in the Pays de France, from its first Merovingian occupations to its medieval destruction.
Small catering on site
For those feeling peckish, the "Attrape ta crêpe" food truck will be on site all day.
Today's bonus: free museum and exhibition
Good news to extend your outing: the ARCHÉA museum and its temporary exhibition are also free on the same day.
