The Château, with its listed gardens, in the heart of a 9 ha park, constitutes an exceptional heritage. Inside, it hosts an immersive exhibition on the famous painter Vincent Van Gogh who spent his last days in the village of Auvers.
Due to its success, the exhibition dedicated to the last four years of Vincent Van Gogh's life has been extended until November 2, 2025.
Located in the castle, the tour takes you from room to room, in the footsteps of the famous artist, through an original staging alternating digital projections, reconstructions of settings familiar to the painter and presentation of original works (paintings, engravings, etc.) by 19th century artists who worked in the same places as him. As for Van Gogh's works, letters, drawings, paintings, they are presented in the form of excellent high-definition digital reproductions.
It traces the main stages of his stay in France, from his years in Paris with his brother Théo to his escapade in the south, to Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. A particular focus is placed on his stay in Auvers-sur-Oise where he painted nearly 75 paintings in less than 70 days.
Van Gogh the traveler changed addresses 36 times in 37 years and nourished his art with encounters, diverse influences and the places where he lived. His style evolved extremely quickly, moving from the dark compositions of his early paintings to canvases where the colours explode.
