The in-line coupling of these four horses shown in this view complied with specific rules. The first in the lead, furthest from the carter was the most spirited horse but also the most obedient. It was he who regulated the driving of the team. The limonier brought up the rear, he was the strongest horse of the three.

We are in 1905. The children are gathered in the square. The warden is vigilant. The town hall flag is at half mast. History does not tell us for what circumstance. In this building built in 1836 was the town hall, schools and housing for teachers. The clock and the bells located in the campanile came from the old orangery of the castle. La Poste currently occupies this building.

A resident tells you a memory:

In English:

“You are now in the heart of the village!
Take a look at the Post Office: this building, built in 1836, once housed the old town hall, but also schools and teachers' accommodation. It is surmounted by a lantern called “La Séquence”. Did you know that this lantern now holds one of the 3 bells of the old village castle?
Formerly "place de la mairie", today "place du Pays de France", this place of passage has always been very lively, in particular thanks to the school, the shops and the administrative services.
Until the 1960s, immediately after the end of the school year, a particular effervescence animated this place the week of July 14th. Indeed, this is where the carnival was held. My grandfather often told me about these evenings in the open air...
Ha yes, it's true! On the evening of July 13, there was a procession with torches and lanterns as well as a popular ball which attracted all the villagers from the surrounding area! For the occasion, everyone put on their best costume!
Swings, wooden horses, bumper cars, shooting ranges, lotteries and sweets allowed, with the complicity of the July sun, to take full advantage of the moment.
Once the party was over, everything became calm again and Roissy returned to the harvest and its agricultural routine.
But two months later, in mid-September, the morning of the start of the school year, new aprons and satchels, laughter and rowdiness resumed their rights in this square! »
