The Grand Roissy Tourist Office engage in a real sustainable development policy through several actions. The aim is to highlight the diversity of local producers present in our territory. To do this, follow the portrait of Isabelle who manages the operation of the Picking Compans.

Originally, it was my father's cereal farm, which decided to diversify by producing fruit and vegetables just outside Paris. Then I took over part of the operation in 1987. Adèle, my daughter, came to join us 4 years ago, so everything is family owned. We had one site and now we have a second one with strawberries. We are part of the Chapeau de Paille group, which is a pioneer in picking in France, there are 35 of them. They are selected according to the quality of production, the management of the site, whether the place is viable, etc.

The Straw Hat group really advocates exchange since we exchange production techniques, we communicate with each other with a WhatsApp group for example. We are "good friends" now, we go to each other's pickings. Thanks to this grouping, we can work better, everyone pulls themselves up.

At the production we are 4 and sometimes temporary workers join us but also trainees. On sale, there can be up to 10 during the big weekend. There is always someone at the reception to explain to visitors how the collection works. The clientele is local and comes from the surrounding 20 kilometres. We have more and more Parisians who come thanks to line K. It leaves from Gare du Nord and arrives directly at Compans 400 meters from here. We also have the bus or the RER B to the Mitry-Claye station.

We provide, for example, picnic tables with everything you need. All of this is available at the shop for visitors to spend the day here. Workshops are very often organized for children. The interest is to further promote picking. For example, we highlight a vegetable: pumpkin, carrot (raw, carrot juice), sweet potato in waffles. At each event, we bring in a pony club to do tricks in picking. »
