The Château de Chantilly received its third star in the Michelin Green Guide. It therefore becomes one of the 24 French museums awarded by the guide.

Located 25 minutes from Roissy, the Château de Chantilly is home to:

  • a horse museum;
  • the castle itself;
  • the Condé museum (second French collection of paintings after the Louvre).

Moreover, in 2020, the Condé museum received the label " Museum of France » (1219 museums). This label designates museums approved by the State and benefiting from its aid in priority.

A third star, like 24 other French museums

The granting of this label has, in part, motivated the teams of the Michelin Green Guide to grant a third star to the château. That's what Philippe Orain, Director of Travel Guides - Le Guide Vert Michelin, explained to the site classtourisme.com :

« The collections of the Château de Chantilly constitute the jewel of the Estate. We do not know enough! The Duke of Aumale has collected priceless treasures of European art. As part of the review of the 9 criteria for awarding stars in the Michelin Green Guide for major French museums, it became evident that Chantilly now deserves its place alongside the 23 other major museums in France which have three stars and therefore “ are worth the trip ”. The collections, maintained in their original presentation, amply deserve this distinction: the Michelin Green Guide team was therefore all the more comforted in this award of three stars as the Musée Condé obtained the “Musée de France” label. in 2020, that it benefit from a remarkable conservation policy and cultural mediation. It is an exceptional place to discover as soon as it reopens, which I hope will be very soon! »

The Château de Chantilly, a very special case

Furthermore, it should be noted that the Château de Chantilly is a very special case.

Indeed, in accordance with the will of the Duke of Aumale, the castle is neither a private establishment, nor a cultural establishment dependent on the Ministry of Culture. It is a public law foundation under the Institut de France, placed "Under the direct protection of the Head of State".

The castle cannot therefore benefit from any of the aid measures put in place by the State following the health crisis, making its financial situation very complicated.
